Directorate of Economics and Statistics, Assam

 

The Directorate of Economics and Statistics, Assam was established in the year 1948 with Dr. M. N. Goswami as the founder Director. The establishments of the Directorate of Economics and Statistics comprises 20 districts and 14 sub-division level offices besides a regional establishment at I)iphu for catering the needs of two hill districts- of State.-The Directorate of Economics and Statistics is, also acting as a Nodal Agency for coordination, supervision etc. in respect of statistical activities in the State of Assam. The main activities of the Directorate include- 

 

 

i.

Preparation and publication of various reports like, Economic Survey of Assam, Statistical Handbook of Assam;

 

ii.

Compilation of SDP of Assam;

 

iii.

Compilation of price indices and retail price data;

 

iv.

Conduct of surveys, studies, etc.; 

 

v.

Conduct of crop cutting experiments for agricultural statistics; 

 

vi.

Conduct of Agricultural Census and Economic Census in the State as per Govt. of India's programme under Central Sector Scheme etc.

 

Some important works recently undertaken by the Directorate are as follows:

 

1. The Report "Economic Survey, Assam, 2003-04" has been prepared by the Directorate of Economics and Statistics, Assam and is awaiting release very soon.

 

2. The publication of Statistical Handbook of Assam, 2003 is under print at Assam Govt, Press and is expected to be released soon.

 

3. The field work of Agricultural Census 2000-2001 has already been started throughout the State. The compilation of data at district level offices will be started soon after completion of field work of the Census.

 

4. The advance estimates of State Domestic Product (SDP) of Assam has been prepared and released for the year 2003-2004.
