Initiative for Public Private Partnership

While traditionally the public sector has been the dominant provider of infrastructure services, the focus in recent years has been shifting to private provision and competition and the Government has been progressively taking the role of a facilitator. Indeed of late getting private capital into infrastructure services has become the cornerstone of the infrastructure development strategy in India.

Following the example of the developed states like Maharastra, Karnataka, Tamilnadu wherein public private partnership in infrastructure sector played big role in creating huge infrastructure like creating of additional space in shipyards, construction of highways, rail road connectivity of major ports, telecommunication etc. the Government of Assam is also opening up its infrastructure sector for private sector participation. The concept papers of the projects which will be offered to execute in Public Private Partnership mode have been placed in the Website for wider dissemination amongst prospective private entrepreneurs.
